What we know about Taylor Swift’s rumoured NYC wedding celebrations

by David Jones 01/07/2026
written by David Jones

Just like when Swift releases new music and her lyrics are dissected for any hints about her personal life, her legion of fans around the world have been scavenging for clues to her nuptials.

When it comes to New York, Swift’s love of the Big Apple can be found in her music and some have even pointed to her recent appearance at Madison Square Garden during the Knicks playoff series in early June, as . The star also owns a home in the city.

There have been some other natural geographic theories about where the couple’s wedding could be.

Swift owns a home in the US state of Rhode Island, a picturesque coastal location for a summer wedding.

She was at that estate just before she met Kelce.

In a now-famous Instagram post shared just after Independence Day weekend of 2023, Swift posted, “See you tonight Kansas Cityyy.”

Many fans have latched on to the idea that Swift would appreciate the symbolism of marrying Kelce nearly three years to the day that she met her future husband.

There was the debunked theory that Swift wanted to hold her wedding at a Rhode Island venue nearby her coastal estate, and offered another couple a significant amount of money to move their wedding date so Swift and Kelce could host theirs. The venue refuted that account.

Speculation of a possible Rhode Island wedding mounted in June, with paparazzi snapping photos of weddings in the area (that they later found weren’t celebrating the famous couple) and fans swarming the area. Swifties who turned up at the site last month were left disappointed.

Then there were other theories: Kansas City, where Kelce lives and works, Swift’s home state of Pennsylvania, and the NFL star’s home state of Ohio.

But on timing, the singer is a big fan of the 4 July holiday, giving further credence to the theory that she would choose the US holiday weekend as a possible date.

89-year-old bakery chain part-owned by Romesh Ranganathan shuts down

Owners have blamed increased Government costs and the heatwave

Neil Shaw Assistant Editor

06:49, 01 Jul 2026

Romesh Ranganathan said he is “gutted” after the 89-year-old bakery chain he part-owned has shut down blaming hikes to business rates and national insurance. Coughlans Bakery – which operates a chain of shops across south London, Kent, Surrey and West Sussex – announced it had ceased trading on Tuesday after it went into voluntary liquidation.

Ranganathan, who is best known for his deadpan stand-up comedy, became a co-owner of the bakery chain in 2024, describing it as “the partnership of the century”. In a video posted to Facebook, managing director Sean Coughlan said the decision to close was affected in part by the Government’s decision to increase national insurance contributions for employers in April last year.

He also blamed high business rates, which he said had “absolutely smashed local business”. Mr Coughlan said these taxes, combined with the spike in fuel prices in the wake of the conflict in the Middle East, cost the company an extra £20,000 a week.

Ranganathan reposted Mr Coughlan’s video to his 1.4 million followers on Instagram with the caption: “Gutted isn’t the word.” In the video, Mr Coughlan said: “Romesh has been amazing, I want to thank him so much. I feel like we’ve absolutely let him down. Everything he’s done, it’s been from the heart.

“He’s devastated. None of us saw this coming. We were looking forward to working together. We had so much fun. There’s not a day working with Rom we haven’t had a great time, and he’s really included himself into our family.”

Mr Coughlan said recent heatwaves, which saw the South East England swelter in temperatures as high as 35C, had been the “nail in the coffin”. “These two heatwaves where no-one really seems to come out,” he said.

“We literally take about 50% of what we would normally take in a normal week, with our outgoing still exactly the same, which is absolutely heartbreaking.”

Mr Coughlan said the business went into voluntary liquidation in order to make sure they will still be able to pay suppliers and employees.

Aussie hairballs Airbourne mine a golden hard rock seam in Cardiff

by David Jones 01/07/2026
written by David Jones

If AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Metallica were caught up in a test tube reaction, it’s likely the new creation to emerge from the biochemical slime would resemble Airbourne. Derivative to the core, the rock-till-you-drop Australian four-piece have touched down in Cardiff’s Tramshed signalling for all men over 50 to don their long beards, heavy metal tees and dark biker-esque clothing, grab a pint and indulge in a spot of headbanging.

Having played with the big boys for some time – supporting the likes of the Rolling Stones, Mötley Crüe and Motörhead – the group are in the Welsh capital for their fourth visit since 2008, slinging their brand of 80s hard rock and still mining that seam, no doubt, hoping for the rock’n’roll gold struck by their long-haired predecessors.

Comparisons to fellow Aussies AC/DC should be understood by anyone with a musical ear. With a guitar tone and style almost identical to that of Angus Young, frontman Joel O’Keeffe plays the double role of lead singer and lead guitarist, behaving with such outlandish abandon that other members of the band almost appear as session musicians in comparison as he regularly takes up the limelight. Sitting atop someone’s shoulders whilst shredding pinky-burning licks as they parade him through the crowd, or headbanging furiously in front of a wall of Marshall amps all turned up to 11, the guy doesn’t let up for a moment – indeed, there’ll be no rendition of Candle In The Wind here.

If having no qualms about being unoriginal is a superpower, then Airbourne wear that badge with honour. Sticking to a formula that works, they display a kind of cartoon majesty, regularly belting out choruses that even someone with memory loss can master.  Songs such as Breakin’ Outta Hell, Raise The Flag and Back In The Game are enough to entertain and get the audience going, resulting in fans occasionally attempting to crowdsurf, or sit atop their friend’s or lover’s shoulders trying to catch cups of water thrown at them from the stage.

If this wasn’t all high-octane enough, Bristolian support act Mother Vulture kick off proceedings, brandishing a more original, 21st-century take on hard rock while packing more energy than a Snickers Duo. Screamo in places, ear-bitingly loud and anyone’s guess as to what they were singing about, though evidently someone at some point had made them very, very angry, hints of Faith No More even overshadow the Chuckle Brothers-style dancing that randomly breaks out in the audience. The group successfully launch what was largely a light-hearted, fun and carefree evening. An after-party if you like, following in the steps of Metallica’s big showdown the evening before – albeit more intimate and budget-friendly.

I had an unpaid £3.99 delivery fee – it affected my life for six years

by David Jones 01/07/2026
written by David Jones

Kelly Miles says she could not believe the impact the forgotten fee had on her life

A mum was horrified to discover she was refused a mortgage for her new home because she’d forgotten to pay a £3.99 delivery charge. Kelly Miles says she discovered she had a ‘big red mark’ on her credit file when she and her ex-partner applied for a mortgage.

Unaware of where the red mark had come from, the 33-year-old did some digging and was shocked to discover that a missed £3.99 delivery charge was the reason why she was unable to take out a mortgage. Kelly says she used a buy now, pay later scheme to purchase an iPad mini as a birthday present a year before for her partner at the time. But despite meeting the £500 repayment for the actual iPad within the six-month period, Kelly was left with a red mark on her file due to missing the delivery fee.

Your credit score reflects how reliable you are with credit, and it affects your ability to borrow money. Credit scores weigh up lots of different pieces of information, including previous credit applications and payments.

The mum-of-two uncovered that the £3.99 delivery charge for the iPad had been missed off the re-payment plan. This meant that Kelly was left with a ‘red mark’ on her credit file that left her unable to take out a mortgage for six years.

The advice charity manager shared her ordeal on social media and says the 2016 incident has left her checking her credit score every month – and urges others to do the same. Kelly Miles, from Portsmouth, Hampshire, said: “Young me decided I wanted to get my ex-partner an iPad mini and I bought it on a buy now pay later. That part of it was fine, it was on a six-month agreement and I paid it in six months. Me and my ex lived in a rental property at the time and the landlord wanted to serve us notice on that rental property.

“We wanted to buy so we went ahead and put the mortgage application in which is when we discovered this big red mark on my credit file. It turned out the iPad mini that I’d bought on buy now pay later had a £3.99 delivery charge to be sent to me, which apparently I didn’t pay at the time of purchase.

“But I never had notification of this – I don’t remember seeing a single letter. Basically this £3.99 charge that I hadn’t paid for delivery had been put on as a mis-payment so I’m meant to have paid it, but each time I’ve missed the payment, it’s put that massive red mark on my credit file. On that basis I couldn’t get accepted for a mortgage and my ex-partner had to buy the house without me.”

Kelly says she felt ‘disappointed’ when she found out about the mishap which left her unable to take out a mortgage for six years. Kelly said: “I was really surprised – it didn’t spring to mind at all [when we first found out about the red mark], I had to do some investigating through my file to find out what it was.

“I was frustrated because it was out of my control, I couldn’t go in and suddenly edit it or something. I was disappointed and I was annoyed in the sense that someone could put that mark against my name without me having any knowledge or awareness of it.”

The red mark on her file left Kelly unable to take out a mortgage for six years. Kelly said: “I was unable to take out a mortgage for six years. I also had to be very careful in terms of any other credit as well, because my chances of getting refused then for credit were higher which would then just pose more marks on to my file.”

Kelly says the experience put her off using buy now, pay later schemes and she is now more conscious of her credit score. Kelly said: “Before then though I was never in any debt – this was the only buy-now-pay-later thing I’d ever bought, so I almost had no reason to check my credit score regularly.

“We’re looking to buy next year so I’m very conscious of my credit score at the moment and making sure that there’s nothing creeping up on there. I think I am more conscious because of that incident – I think if maybe I wasn’t then I would assume that my credit is fine.

“I’m not someone who’s in debt so you would always automatically assume that your credit score must be good, but it wasn’t. That experience put me off buy now, pay later – I would say avoid using them in general if you can avoid them.”

Kelly is now urging other people to check their credit score regularly – and says she is doing so monthly as she looks to apply for a mortgage next year. Kelly said: “Frequently check your credit score – especially if you’ve taken out a new product, like a buy now pay later, or a finance product like a credit card or loan.

“You need to check quite soon after you’ve taken it out how that has been placed onto your credit file – checking that the information on there is correct. I check my credit score at least once a month now.”

Martin Lewis fan reclaims £2,000 and thousands could be owed cash

by David Jones 30/06/2026
written by David Jones

She ‘acted instantly’ before being told how much she would get

08:38, 30 Jun 2026Updated 08:38, 30 Jun 2026

A Martin Lewis follower has revealed how she recovered more than £2,000 after settling her student loan. Daniela, who resides in Loughborough with her husband and two children, was highlighted on the Martin Lewis Money Show to discuss her ‘student finance win’.

To qualify as a maths teacher, Daniela required to borrow £16,000 for her degree, and an additional £9,000 for her teacher training. Daniela described how she was viewing the Martin Lewis Money show in November, when the finance expert outlined that over a million students have overpaid their student loans.

Daniela stated there were numerous reasons cited and that one was experiencing gaps in employment. She said: “In the last few years I had to give up my job when I had my eldest child.”

She continued: “Once Martin shared that you could possibly have overpaid a student loan, I acted instantly.” Daniela simply accessed her student finance account and examined her statement, before submitting a refund request.

“Within 48 hours of my application, I was told I would get a refund of £2,213. It was a pinch-me moment. I was seven months pregnant. I’m not working, I don’t get an income. Having that money was really helpful.”

The Money Saving Expert (MSE) website advises that “reclaiming overpayments often only takes minutes”. Common causes of overpayment include continuing to make repayments despite not having reached the earnings threshold, being registered on the incorrect student loan plan, deductions continuing after the loan has been fully settled, and beginning repayments ahead of schedule.

Is the key to youthful skin moisturising three times a day? Study reveals your morning cream has worn off by lunchtime

by David Jones 30/06/2026
written by David Jones

By XANTHA LEATHAM, EXECUTIVE SCIENCE EDITOR

Published: 16:23 BST, 30 June 2026 | Updated: 16:30 BST, 30 June 2026

[noscript_1]

Most women start their day with a cleanse, tone and moisturise routine – but your morning cream has likely worn off by lunchtime, according to a new study.

Experts tested four popular moisturisers and found that the measurable hydration boost they gave skin generally wore off within three to five hours.

They warned a twice-daily routine may leave afternoon gaps where hydration has dropped.

And it could mean moisturising three times a day is the secret to maintaining youthful skin.

‘This study demonstrated that the hydration effects of…moisturisers are time-limited and vary by formation,’ the team wrote in the journal Skin.

‘Widely available creams require reapplication every three to four hours to maintain above-baseline hydration.’

Moisturiser is essential for maintaining a healthy complexion as it provides hydration, reinforces your skin’s protective barrier and shields the face from environmental irritants.

A product that wears off quickly could, in the long run, lead to excess oil production, sensitivity and dullness.

For the study the team, from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, recruited 30 healthy adult volunteers and dabbed four store-bought moisturisers along their forearms.

The products included popular, affordable moisturisers – CeraVe Moisturising Cream, Cetaphil Moisturising Cream, Eucerin Advanced Repair Crème.

They also included a more expensive SkinMedica HA5 serum, which retails for more than £150.

Skin hydration was tracked at the start, then at one hour, four hours and 24 hours after application.

Using a statistical model, researchers estimated the point when each product’s hydration benefit fell back to the level of untreated skin.

Analysis revealed the more expensive serum offered the longest moisturising effects of nearly five hours.

However, the other, more affordable options – the Cetaphil and Eucerin products – provided shorter-lived benefits of 3.5 hours or less.

This suggests these products ‘need more frequent applications to maintain increased hydration effects,’ the team wrote.

Is the key to youthful skin moisturising three times a day? Study reveals your morning cream has worn off by lunchtime

Moisturisers were measured against the hydration levels of untreated skin (yellow). The CeraVe moisturiser (blue) closely tracked untreated skin, the Cetaphil (green) and Eucerin (red) brands provided more hydration for 3-3.5 hours, and the serum lasted the longest at nearly 5 hours

Analysis revealed the more expensive serum (left) offered the longest moisturising effects of nearly five hours. However, the other, more affordable options (right) provided shorter-lived benefits

They also found that untreated skin initially lost hydration before it slowly rose again over the course of the day.

This could be down to naturally fluctuating levels of hydration in our skin, which can be caused by sweating, blood flow and environmental conditions.

Surprisingly, the hydration provided by the CeraVe moisturiser was found to closely track that of untreated skin throughout the study.

The researchers said this could be because it may help stabilise the skin barrier instead of producing a measurable hydration spike.

Cardiff Airport supporting the Stay With Friends campaign

by David Jones 30/06/2026
written by David Jones

The airport is backing the “Stay Aware, Stay Safe, Stay Together” campaign in memory of Tom Channon, a young man from Rhoose, who travelled to Magaluf, Spain, to celebrate the end of his A levels with friends, but died after a fall while trying to find his hotel alone.

Angela Hewitson, terminal manager at Cardiff Airport, said: “We are extremely proud to support Tom’s campaign, which delivers an important message about staying safe whilst travelling abroad.

“Through the dedication of John and Ceri, Tom’s legacy continues to make a positive difference by helping to raise awareness among young travellers and their families.

“Posters displayed around the airport include a QR code linking to a range of practical safety resources, developed collaboratively by Tom’s parents and his former sixth form college, St David’s Catholic College in Cardiff.

“The resources offer valuable guidance to help young people stay safe and look after one another whilst overseas.

“We encourage all passengers to take a moment to reflect on the campaign’s message, ‘Stay Aware, Stay Safe, Stay Together,’ and to look out for one another whilst enjoying their travels.”

Cardiff Airport is working with Tom’s parents, John and Ceri Channon, to promote the campaign through a series of posters displayed throughout key footfall areas in check-in and departures.

The posters include a QR code linking to a range of practical safety resources.

Since Tom’s death, his parents have worked to raise awareness in the hope of preventing similar tragedies for other families.

Efforts are focused on reaching younger travellers, particularly those heading abroad with friends for the first time.
