Driver dies after crash involving bus and van closes busy Carmarthenshire road

Police have confirmed that one man died and two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were taken to hospital after a serious crash in Carmarthenshire. The collision involved a bus and a van on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the scene of a crash on the A40 near Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire at around 4.30pm. Police and paramedics were at the scene on the Llandeilo to Nantgaredig road, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.

Late on Friday night, Dyfed Powys Police confirmed that the crash involved a Scania bus and a Ford Transit van. Sadly, the male driver of the van died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A spokesperson said that there was one 14-year-old passenger on the bus along with the driver. Both were taken to Glangwili hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

The A40 remains closed in both directions from Carmarthen Road in Llandeilo to Pentrefelin and traffic monitoring systems are showings delays in the area.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene of the incident, which they say is now under control.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “A40 – Llandeilo to Nantgaredig is currently closed due to an emergency incident.

“Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey. Thank you.”

It comes just over a week after another bus crash in Carmarthenshire saw six people taken to hospital and 19 injured. It happened on the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout.
