The Old Dock opened its doors on Saturday (October 17) on Holton Road, with a fresh lick of paint and a love for the town in which it sits.
Opened by a group of five friends, this micropub is a slightly different take on the pubs that the people of Barry know and love, offering constant variety and local tipples.
This pub is clearly proud of where it’s from, with the establishment themed around the docks that brought trade to Barry.
Their logo features crane number two and the teal colour that plasters the interior is based on the railway that complemented the dock’s operations.

The idea of The Old Dock was born two years ago, when the five owners were sat in a pub themselves and thought “what if?”
Now, this thought is a reality that has garnered an incredible amount of support in its opening weekend.
Barrie Dyer, one of the five owners and spokesperson for the business, said: “It’s a team of five friends that have had a go at it.
“It’s crazy when you can do something as mad as this with some of your friends.
“For some of us, this is our boyhood dream.”
They have made the most of local suppliers, brewers and distilleries across their menu, with six pumps and five kegs in constant rotation to offer the best variety for drinkers of all sorts.
Their barrels come from breweries in Nash Point and Caerphilly, rather than going for the commercial big-name brands that are prevalent in most other pubs.

This independence allows them to chop and change their offerings, expanding the options available as the establishment grows, giving the “beer festival experience every single day” and “keeping it fresh.”
The pub has already got a packed schedule of events coming up with live music, history talks and watch parties already on the calendar for the coming weeks.
Mr Dyer told the Barry and District News that the Old Dock is “always happy for feedback” and have already “asked people what drinks they want to see” on their pumps.
He said: “We’re not pretending to be something we’re not.”
