South Wales Police were called to an incident at Llantwit Major & Coastal Vale Medical Practice on Station Road on Monday, September 28.
Armed police attended the practice as a precaution.
One man was detained under the Mental Health Act following the incident and was taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “A man has been detained under the Mental Health Act and conveyed to hospital following an incident at the surgery in Llantwit Major earlier today.
“Armed police were deployed as a precaution. Nobody was hurt.
“The community is thanked for its patience and understanding.”
In an update on Facebook, Llantwit Major & Coastal Vale Medical Practice said: “A serious incident occurred at our practice today which has shaken all our staff.
“Everyone is ok and we would like to thank you for all your support.”
