Barry Community Choir performs delayed summer concert

The event, originally postponed due to July’s heatwave, took place in the more comfortable climate of late September.

Led by musical director Ali Shone and accompanist Amy Reynolds, the choir was supported by members of PODyS, the youth section of Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society.

Ms Shone welcomed the audience, which included the recently retired Jane Hutt, the longest-serving minister in the Welsh Government and supporter of the choir, and this year’s mayor of Barry, Councillor Sian Thomas.

The choir presented a diverse programme, featuring pop songs from the sixties and noughties, a 16th-century madrigal, the well-known Bring Him Home, and others.

The young PODyS performers also delivered popular musical theatre pieces, with William Carr impressing with his piano accompaniment.

The audience participated in the singing and joined in enthusiastically for the closing item, Coldplay’s Viva La Vida.

Ms Shone invited attendees to the upcoming ‘Choir and Cake Taster’ at St John Church, Barry Island, on September 30 at 7pm.

The evening concluded with guests enjoying homemade cakes and other refreshments.
