Glyn Eveleigh, 34, of Dylan Crescent, Barry was sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on July 15 after previously pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and an offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
The court heard that on September 11, 2025, at Gladstone Park in Barry, Eveleigh assaulted Steven O’Grady, causing him actual bodily harm.
On the same date, he was also in control of a dog which was dangerously out of control and injured Mr O’Grady.
Magistrates imposed a 26-week prison sentence for the assault, suspended for 12 months.
The court said the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified, citing the nature and seriousness of the offending and a lack of genuine remorse.
A further 26-week prison sentence was imposed for the dangerous dog offence, to run consecutively, also suspended for 12 months.
As part of a suspended sentence order, Eveleigh must complete up to 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
The court said the prison sentence was suspended because of a realistic prospect of rehabilitation, his lack of previous convictions and his ability to comply with probation requirements.
Eveleigh was also disqualified for five years from owning, keeping or having influence over the keeping of dogs.
He cannot apply to have the ban lifted for at least three years.
In addition, he was ordered to pay £500 compensation to the victim.
No prosecution costs or victim surcharge were imposed due to compensation being awarded and Eveleigh’s limited means.
