Families were a recurring theme, with parents praising the play area for keeping children entertained while they ate, and several reviews specifically thanking staff for being patient and accommodating with young children.

Regular customers said they returned frequently because of consistent portion sizes and competitive pricing compared with other pubs in the area, with a handful of reviewers describing The Ship as their “go-to” spot in Barry for a casual meal. Dog owners also gave positive feedback, noting the pub’s welcoming approach to pets during lunchtime visits.

Some comments also mentioned worn furniture, with one customer noting that refurbishment decisions for Hungry Horse sites are typically made by parent company Greene King rather than individual venue staff.
