Car drives down narrow coastal walking path

by David Jones

Police and the council attended the scene after receiving the unusual report

A holidaymaker drove along a narrow cliff footpath only built for walkers after taking a wrong turn during their seaside break.

They turned onto a coastal path, which had been relaid to help wheelchair users and families, in an area of Gower.

It is understood the white car turned off after a tyre blew out.

The lost driver was stopped by stunned walkers who helped change their tyre and guide them back to the road on the Gower Peninsula on Monday.

The route between Limeslade and Rotherslade was relaid at a cost of £80,000 less than a year ago. Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here.

The project was as part of an upgrade of the Wales Coastal Path.

South Wales Police said a PCSO had attended the scene but by the time they arrived the car had gone.

Swansea Council said its countryside access team visited the path the following day and found no damage.
