The show is currently exploring Dylan Keogh’s storyline where he is recovering from an alcohol addiction.
Dylan, played by William Beck, relapsed after finding out his colleague Stevie Nash had been having an affair with his son Dr Matty Linlaker.
At the start of the episode, Dylan visits his father Brian Carroll, who didn’t recognise him after his years of drinking, and ended with Brian claiming he never loved Dylan.
Who plays Brian Carroll in Casualty?
Fans were quick to notice that Brian had been recast with a different actor after first appearing in the show between 2015 and 2018.
Brian was originally played by Matthew Marsh, who you might recognise from shows like The Crown and Grantchester.
The role has now been taken over by David Beames, who has starred in Top Boy and The Bill.
Fans had a few questions about the change with one posting on X saying: “Woah that is a different Brian? What happened to Dylan’s little sister with Hazel?”

Fans have taken to Reddit to share their opinions on the emotional episode.
One Reddit user said: “I didn’t actually mind that they recast Dylan’s dad.
“Would the original actor have been great? Yes.
“But it worked brilliantly well.
“Brian’s brief lucid moment’s, saying that he never loved his son and calling him a runt, that was glimpses of the cruel man Dylan remembers.
“It was really sad that Dylan thought he was like him and that’s why he couldn’t be a dad.”
Another said: “I think the two or three Dylan-focused episodes have been some of the strongest parts of this boxset.
“They’ve been handled really well, there’s a subtlety to his story that makes it feel genuinely human and real.
“It probably deserved more focus than all the Stevie/Matty relationship stuff.”
