The incident took place in Cowbridge, forcing emergency services to issue safety warnings.
Fire crews were called to the Llwynhelig area at around 6pm on July 17, at a site near the A48 and Forage Farm.
Dramatic images showed large plumes of smoke visible from a distance.
A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they had received a high number of calls from members of the public who had spotted the smoke while travelling through the area.
Crews from multiple stations attended the scene, using five aerial appliances and three water bowsers.
What was initially reported as a vehicle fire was later understood to involve burning tyres.
The fire continued into the evening, though the A48 remained clear and there were no major disruptions to traffic.
Nearby residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the heavy smoke.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed but South Wales Fire & Rescue have been asked for an update.
