Balcony proposal approved
A new balcony has been approved for a property at Chandlers Way, despite an objection from a neighbour.
They involve replacing a bay window with French doors to provide access to the new balcony.
The balcony will feature a glass balustrade and side privacy screens.
A neighbour raised concerns that the structure would overlook their garden and reduce their privacy. They also said the area had seen a rise in balcony construction.
Planning officers noted that balconies of a similar design had already been approved on other properties in the terrace.
They concluded the proposal would not harm the character of the building or the area.
Obscure glazed screens are to be installed facing the neighbouring property, in order to protect privacy.
Digital kiosk refused
A proposal for a digital communications kiosk on Windsor Road, outside Costa Coffee, has been refused.
The kiosk would have included a telephone, public information display, advertising screen and a defibrillator.
Council officers said its primary purpose was digital advertising.
They described it as a “visually intrusive and discordant” addition to the street scene.
The proposal was found to introduce unnecessary visual clutter and harm the appearance of the Penarth Conservation Area.
While officers acknowledged the public benefits of the telephone and defibrillator, they said these did not justify the installation.
