The person selected will have the chance to turn on the lights at the Christmas Lights Switch-On, taking place on Sunday, November 22.
A spokesman for Penarth Town Council said: “Penarth Town Council wants to hear about our unsung local heroes.
“Who makes a difference to life in Penarth?
“Perhaps it’s a neighbour who is always there to help, a volunteer who gives their time, someone who supports a local group, or a person who brings people together and makes others feel welcome.
“These are the people who help make Penarth such a special place to live.
“Often, they do it quietly, without expecting thanks or recognition.
“This Christmas, we want to change that.”
The event will run from 3pm to 7pm, with the lights being switched on at 6pm.
Nominations for the honour will close on Sunday, November 8.
The council is encouraging residents to share stories about individuals who go the extra mile—whether through volunteering, supporting neighbours, or helping the community feel more connected.
Submissions can be made online at www.penarthtowncouncil.gov.uk/hero.
A spokesman said: “Let’s celebrate the people who make Penarth shine.”
