The suspect entered the Spar shop on Brockhill Way at around 1.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, and demanded money.
The shop worker refused and the man left empty-handed.
The suspect is described as middle-aged and white, and was wearing a baseball cap, a medical-type face mask, an orange top, and dark trousers at the time of the incident.
South Wales Police are appealing to the public for information, and urge anyone who recognises him, or the individual himself, to get in touch.
