The event took place at the Park Hotel in Barry as part of the Barry Arts Festival, featuring Penarth-based storyteller, actor, and writer Dick Johns.
Mr Johns, who is approaching his 60th birthday, shared tales and reflections from his life, reading from his short story collection Dignity.
The evening also featured music from Mick Fisher and Pat O’Riordan and poetry from Yvonne Murphy and Megan Merrett, who read works by her friend Emily Thomas.
Dot Connell, organiser of the Barry Arts Festival, said: “It was a beautiful evening of entertainment, which was thought-provoking and uplifting, as Dick gave us his words of wisdom and reflections from late middle age.
“We also heard from Yvonne Murphy, reflecting on her family’s origins in Ireland and on the relationship between Caitlin and Dylan Thomas, and powerful poetry from Emily Thomas’s collection Not Much Rhymes With Cancer, read by her friend Megan Merrett.
“Musical entertainment was provided by Mick Fisher and Pat O’Riordan.
“I would also like to thank Barry Town Council for its Vibrant Culture grant which supports us to put on events.”
Mr Johns’s new book, Ten Transformative Drama Games, is set to be published by Routledge next year.
