We Will Rock You to take to stage in Penarth’s Paget Rooms

Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS) will bring the hit West End show We Will Rock You to Penarth this month, featuring more than 80 costumes and the anthemic music of Queen.

The Penarth Times was granted an exclusive look behind the scenes as the cast donned full costume for the first time during final rehearsals.

Peter Knowles, chair of PODS, said: “The cast and production team have worked tirelessly over the past five months to bring this show to life.

“Everyone has given their all to what is a hugely ambitious and technical production.

“I couldn’t be prouder of what’s been achieved, and I truly believe Penarth audiences are in for something very special.”

The bold and imaginative costumes have been designed by BAFTA-winning designer Andy Bradshaw, bringing an extra layer of visual impact to the high-energy production.

Choreographer Ceri Wheatley has created dynamic routines that capture both the show’s futuristic themes and its spirit of rebellion.

PODS is one of the first community theatre companies in the UK to stage We Will Rock You, following its recent release for amateur performance.

The production is particularly timely, as the show will celebrate its 24th birthday during the Penarth run.

Queen fans can expect an evening packed with iconic hits delivered in a fresh and dramatic format.

Mr Knowles said audiences are in for “something very special” when the curtain rises.

Judging by the energy and excitement in the rehearsal room, the show promises to deliver a night of powerful music and performance.

We Will Rock You opens at the Paget Rooms on Wednesday, May 13, and runs nightly until Saturday, May 16.

A matinee performance will also take place at 2pm on the Saturday.

The production marks a significant milestone for PODS and offers the community a unique opportunity to experience this beloved musical outside the West End.
