Police cordon off area in Bridgend and building evacuated after car crashes into wall

A woman has been taken to hospital and a building has been evacuated after a car crash in Bridgend.

Police said the car the woman was driving collided with a wall.

Officers believe the injuries the woman had suffered were not connected to the crash and have since cordoned off an area and evacuated a building with a large police presence still in place.

Police officers and the Wales Air Ambulance were called to the incident in Coity Road, Bridgend, at 12.43pm on Monday.

The one-vehicle crash occurred at the City Road junction with Highland Place, Bridgend.

The road was closed for some time.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Coity Road, Bridgend, at around 12.43pm on Monday, October 19, following a report of a road traffic collision, wherein a car had collided with a wall.

“Upon attendance officers identified that the driver had sustained injuries not believed linked to the collision.

“The driver has been taken to hospital.

“A significant policing presence remains in the area of Ger-y-Nant as officers are working to understand events leading to the collision.

“A building has been evacuated and a police cordon is in place to maintain public safety.

“Please avoid the area in order to help emergency services access the scene.”

They said they were unable to give more details at this time.

A Wales Air Ambulance spokesman said: “”I can confirm the Wales Air Ambulance helicopter attended an incident.

“Our Dafen-based crew was allocated at 1.07pm and arrived at scene at 1.32pm. Our involvement concluded at 3pm.”
