Drainage works
A non-material amendment has been approved for the former railway sidings on Ffordd y Mileniwm.
The change relates to a reserved matters application for 56 homes and associated infrastructure.
The amendment updates the landscape plans to include replacement planting on an embankment affected by drainage works.
The drainage connection is required to meet Welsh Water standards.
The revised planting will restore vegetation lost during the works.
The council concluded that the amendment would not alter the development’s scale or visual impact.
Educational campus
The council has approved the discharge of a landscaping condition for the new Cardiff and Vale College campus at Barry Waterfront.
The condition required a revised soft landscaping scheme with a higher proportion of native tree species.
The updated plan replaces one Amelanchier lamarckii ‘Robin Hill’ with a Betula pendula.
The landscaping scheme is designed to protect local amenity and comply with the council’s Local Development Plan.
Extension
A ground-floor rear and side extension has been approved at 20 Coed Bach.
The rear extension will be around five metres deep, and the combined width of the rear and side extensions will be about 5.9 metres, with a flat roof height of 2.7 metres.
The side extension will project 1.5 metres from the existing building.
The council said the design is in keeping with the original house and will not harm the character of the area.
Retrospective dormer
Retrospective permission has been granted for a rear dormer loft conversion at 1 St Oswald’s Road.
The dormer was built without permission and does not comply with permitted development rules due to its cladding finish.
One objection was received, raising concerns about the accuracy of the plans and the dormer’s impact on the building’s appearance.
The council concluded that the dormer is proportionate to the house and does not harm visual amenity.
Balcony and extension
A single-storey side and rear extension with a larger external balcony has been approved at 11 Porth-y-Castell.
The balcony will measure 4.1 metres deep and 8.8 metres wide.
The side extension will vary in height due to the site’s gradient.
The council’s heritage officer initially raised concerns about the loss of original features, but amendments to retain existing windows addressed these issues.
A 1.8-metre privacy screen will be installed along the eastern boundary to address overlooking concerns.
