Police have issued an update after a crash closed a section of the M4 near Cardiff.
Emergency services were called to the scene between junctions 32 and 33 of the westbound carriageway on Friday evening due to what an eyewitness described as a “really bad accident”.
The westbound carriageway was shut as police dealt with the incident, with traffic building for miles around.
South Wales Police confirmed on Saturday morning that nobody was injured in the crash, and that a man has been arrested and subsequently charged on suspicion of drink driving.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “We received several reports at around 8.45pm last night of a collision involving two vehicles on the westbound carriageway of the M4 between junctions 32 and 33. No injuries were reported. Philip Johnsey, 63, of Magor, Newport, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with alcohol above the prescribed limit.”
The statement added that he had been released on bail and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on September 22.
